English Premier League giants, Manchester United, have announced that Ruben Amorim has been appointed as the head coach of the club following the departure of Erik Ten Hag.

In a statement published on the club’s website on November 1, 2024, it disclosed that Amorim will be in charge of the team until June 2027 and will have an option to extend for another year depending on his performance.

It also indicated that Ruud van Nistelrooy will be the interim manager of the team until November 11, 2024, when Amorim will take over as the substantive head coach.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements. He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday, November 11, 2024,” portions of the statement read.

The statement by United also highlighted some of the successes Amorim has achieved as head coach of Portuguese side, Sporting CP, which include winning two league titles.

“Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years. Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins,” the statement added.

This comes after head coach Erik Ten Hag was sacked by the club following the poor performances of the team in the 2024/2025 football season.
