Former Ghana Premier League topscorer Augustine Okrah says he has rejected a contract extension at Sudanese giants Al Merreikh after his two-year deal ended this month.

The 24-year-old, who is reportedly being courted by several clubs in the United Arab Emirates, was in scintillating form last season, scoring 17 league goals to finish as the second topscorer in the Sudan Premier League.

However, the club failed to tie the former Bechem United star to a new deal, leaving him as a free agent, and is on the verge of sealing a one year contract with city rivals Al Hilal.

"I have decided to move on following several discussions with my agent. I have paid my dues for Al Merreikh within the past two seasons and will like to face another challenge elsewhere," Okrah told Goal.

"Last season, I gave my all to the club but it was heartbreaking for majority of the supporters because Merreikh could not win the league title and Sudan Cup. I understand them because if your rival win all the trophies, you have no reason to celebrate. However, I believe things can be better for them in the future even without me," he added.

Okrah was asked about his highly publicised move to Hilal, and the midfielder admits holding talks with them but remained tight-lipped on the possibilities.

"I can't confirm where I will be playing now although I have been contacted by several clubs including Al Hilal. I have heard the rumours, read several stories about me in the newspapers in Sudan but at the appropriate time, I will disclose my new team.

"My new club will in one way or the other shock some people. This is because many clubs are looking forward to sign me. Some supporters will be happy and others won't but it is normal.

“Football is always like that because everyone wants the best for his side always in order to win titles and bragging rights," he added.

Goal understands that Okrah, who is currently in Ghana on holidays, will leave the country next week to Sudan to finalise his move to Hilal.
