Dormant Black stars midfielder Laryea Kingston has jumped to the defense of his brother goalkeeper Richard Kingson, over recent criticism from some football fans over his performance.
Kingson has been under fire for the three goals Ghana conceded in the matches against Congo and South Korea over the past week.
This came just few days after he threatened to quit the Black Stars after a fan verbally abused him during Ghana’s training session in Accra before the Congo clash.
The 2-1 defeat to South Korea on Tuesday June 7, has piled pressure on Kingson to quit but Ali Jara says fans are prematurely ending the careers of good players.
According to the fans, the goalkeeper has lost the form and reflexes he exhibited at the 2010 world Cup.
Speaking to Citi Sports, his junior brother Laryea Kingtson, said fans should exercise restraint because Kingson is still Ghana’s best bet.
"After the game, I heard a lot of people criticizing him and I felt very bad because he has done a lot for the country and he is still doing it. For now he is still the best at the moment and we have not had someone who can fit into his shoes. The only people who can fit into his shoes are perhaps Sammy Adjei and George Owu. Van Der Sar of Manchester United was in goal for long. Goalkeepers have long life span in football unlike players. So I think he still has a lot in him and he is still feeling good.
“Trust me, I am a sportsman and if Olele is not feeling good, he would have hanged his boots long ago. He has been there for the country and has done a lot for the country. And in football, you should expect mistakes. Throughout his life, this is the only time he is having these difficulties. No fan can tell me that he has been bad. This is the only time that I have seen him having problems so for me it is too early for them to be judging him that way” Laryea Kingson lamented.
Former Black Stars Goalkeeper and now Goalkeepers’ trainer Ali Jarra, has also told Citi Sports that Richard Kingston is irreplaceable in the Senior National team at the moment.
According to him, the rest of the upcoming Goalkeepers are inexperienced.
Ex-Ghana captain C.K. Akonnor, also in a recent interview with Citi Sports, lashed out at calls for Kingson's retirement from the national team.
