Ghana's amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, has made significant progress in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualifiers, with four boxers advancing to the next round.
Ghana took seven boxers to the Olympic Games qualifiers in Thailand, which started on May 24 and ends on June 2.
The Black Bombers, who are yet to qualify for the Olympic Games, began their quest for the final push on a sad note as African Games gold medalist Amadu Mohammed lost his featherweight fight.
UK-based boxer Mark Kojovi Ahondo also suffered a defeat to his opponent Joseph Kennedy St Pierre from Mauritius in the men's Super Heavyweight.
Commonwealth silver medalist Joseph Commey had a walkover as his opponent from Kosovo failed to show up for the bout. Commey, who won gold at the African Games, has now made it to the Round of 32 stage.
Light middleweight boxer Henry Malm earned a decisive unanimous win over his opponent Bilrrashid Mohammed of Libya.
Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey earned a hard-fought victory over his Hungarian foe Bernath Attila. The boxer won by a unanimous point decision to make it to the Round of 32 stage.
Female boxer Ornella Sathoud sealed her way through to the Round of 16 stage in the Middleweight category when she earned a split decision victory over Czech Republican boxer Monika Langerova.
Unfortunately, heavyweight boxer Jonathan Tetteh was unable to make it to the next round as he lost to Azerbaijan’s Loren Berto, who is an Olympic bronze medalist.
With four boxers left, the Black Bombers will hope to seal qualification to the Summer Games in Paris.
