Ghana FA technical director Francis Oti Akenteng admits the country’s failure to qualify for the last three Olympic Games is a splotch on Kwesi Nyantakyi’s administration.
Both the Black Meteors and Black Queens crushed out of the 2016 qualifying campaign to stretch back to 2004 when the team last qualified.
The West Africans last appearance was 11 years ago when Portuguese Mariano Barreto led the Black Meteors to the group phase of the competitions in Athens, Greece.
The country has since made several unsuccessful attempts to qualify with their latest setback becoming a source of worry to local fans.
Nyantakyi has been largely credited for transforming the country’s football since he assumed office in 2005 but according to the country’s FA technical chief Oti Akenteng, the constant failure at the Olympic level has cast a slur on Nyantakyi’s administration.
“Since President (Kwesi Nyantaki) came to office, I think the Olympic Games is one competition that his administration has failed to qualify”, Oti Akenten told Atinka FM
“We have struggled to find an antidote to our inability to qualify for all the previous competitions and it is very worrying.
“The Meteors tried and even progressed from the preliminary stages but were undone by Congo on penalties and the Queens also went on draw in Cameroon but surprisingly bottled it up at home.”
“In all, I must say that we all were looking forward to the teams’ qualification.”
The Black Meteors lost out penalties Congo while the Queens lost in a similar fashion against high-flying Cameroon in the qualifying round.
