Olympics IMC commits C300 million to pay allowances

Accra, Feb 13, GNA - The new Interim Management Committee of Accra Great Olympics Football Club has commenced work with the commitment of 300 million cedis for the payment of salaries and allowances of players, the technical team and administrative staff.

This was contained in a press statement signed by Mr. Fritz Baffour, spokesman for the committee, and made available to the GNA Sports at the Kaa Jaanor training ground of the team on Thursday. The statement said, the IMC would meet the players and the administrative staff on one -on- one basis and discuss their problems including remuneration and welfare in order to motivate them to give off their best.

The IMC said it has begun negotiations for a "bus befitting the status of the club" and promised to disclose the details as soon as the deal is finalized.

"We have also started discussing a possible sponsorship deal with a giant corporate body in the country and a kit sponsorship deal with L Sporto. Details of the packages are being finalized and the contracts on these deals may be signed by the end of the month".

On the composition of the technical team, the statement said Abdul Aziz, the substantive assistant coach of the club should assume full responsibility until a substantive head coach is appointed.

Aziz was also tasked "to submit proposals on reviving the second or junior side of the club, the famous "Dade Boys" to train and develop players for the senior side.

Addressing the supporters and players at the end of their training session, Mr. Bafour, assured the players that their salary arrears would be paid before the end of next week.

He said the IMC would introduce training allowances to ease the mobility of the players to and from the training ground and assured them that the time has come for them to gain respect and recognition as players of the "Wonder Club."

Mr. Johnny Teye, another member of the IMC advised the players to be disciplined at all times in order to enhance their careers and bring honour to the club.

Mr. George Heward-Mills assured the players that their tenure on the management committee of the club would usher in a new era that will be synonymous with success and promised the supporters that their time of sorrow and grief after matches was over.

He called on all members of the Olympics family "to get on board and help in bringing back the lost glory of our great club."
