Accra, March 16, GNA - Struggling Accra Great Olympics failed to grab the three maximum points in the 15th week league game as visiting Tema Youth forced them to split points at the Ohene Djan Stadium on Sunday. Seeking their third victory in the premiership, Olympics had their 66th minute lead cancelled by Tema Youth during injury time to end the game in a one all draw, which cut short jubilation from the home fans. The equaliser from Tem Youth drew a wild protest from the players, technical bench and supporters of Great Olympics as Koforidua based referee John Attikese, his two assistants as well as other match officials were only saved from physical attack by the alertness of the security personnel at the Stadium.
The protest was against the equaliser, which they argued was scored from an offside position.
Olympics, who have been struggling to lift themselves off the bottom of the league table had the best of opportunities in the game to record a handsome win before regulation but squandered them each time they went close to scoring. The brightest chance for Olympics came in the 32nd minute when Eric Adjei headed Tanko Mohamed's perfect cross over the bar with a yawning net before him.
The home team again broke away from the Tema Youth defence in the 35th and 42nd minute but failed to convert the chances created with Mohamed and Bilal Mohamed going on record as the worst culprits. The early part of the second was dominated by Tema Youth as Ekow Benson, Ben Akkuffo and Emmanuel Nuhey ensured constant threats in the area of Olympics.
But another attack from Olympics saw substitute Paa Joe Kumah trap a well laid cross from Tanko Ibrahim, before delivering a powerful left footed shot past keeper Joseph Mensah. Olympics could have gone up by at least two more goals before the end of regulation time as they took control of proceedings and created some decent chances, which were wasted by Mohamed and Adjei. In spite of this, they still had the signs of victory pointing in their direction when the fourth referee indicated two minutes of added time to be played.
But to the chagrin of Olympics fans, Ibrahim Dushie picked a ball in their 16 yard box and shot through a cluster of legs to cancel their lead after four extra minutes had been played.
