Opoku Afriyie faces GFA rap over selection allegations

Ex-Black Stars team manager Opoku Afriyie could be hauled before the Ethics Committee of the Ghana FA for alleging officials interfere in the selection of coach Kwesi Appiah.

Opoku was captured on tape alleging that officials of the Ghanaian FA do not allow coaches to make their own selection but rather meddle in the process – a situation he claims has existed for years.

“The coach is not left to do things his way. Ghana FA officials influence selection,” Afriyie reportedly told Kumasi-based Hello FM.

“They do it to the foreign coaches so how much less a local coach like Akwasi Appiah.

“Coach Appiah finds it very difficult to call up Samuel Inkoom for instance because some officials just don’t want him to be called,” he said.

Despite denying his own voice, the Ethics Committee of the Association are likely not to allow the matter to die a natural death considering the fact that its impugn the credibility of the FA and the trainer.

He could be drag to the committee to substantiate the claims with the Association likely to come down heavy if he’s unable to offer credible evidence to back his allegations.

The explosive comment by the former Asante Kotoko player has triggered divergent views in the West African country.

While some have criticized him for exhibiting gross hypocrisy due to his long-affiliation with the FA, critics have hailed his comment as the true reflection of how affairs are run by officials at the Ghana FA.

The ex-international is the team manager of the country’s Under-23.
