Defending Champions of the Sprite Ball Championship Opoku Ware School’s bad run in this year’s edition of the flagship high school basketball competition continues.

The Kumasi based team lost 13-14 to Adisadel College in the second game in Group D to concede its second consecutive loss in the ongoing tournament at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.

In the aftermath of losing eight players from the winning side, Opoku Ware has had difficulty breaking teams down in the competition.

The team was expected to qualify from the Group which has Mawuli Senior High School and Sacred Heart Senior High School.

With just two starters returning from the winning side including standout Guard Emmanuel “Ghost” Agyapong, Opoku Ware’s depth was suspect ahead of the tournament and Sacred Heart exploited it to clinch a shock 38-27 win in the opening.

Opoku Ware is all but out of the competition with a tie against Mawuli left to play. The Sprite Ball Championship ends on Saturday January 6.
