Banking firm, Opportunity International donated an undisclosed amount of money to Ghana’s fastest Paralympian, Raphael Botsyo Nkegbe on Wednesday at their Head office in Accra.

The donation was in appreciation of the Paralympian’s success chalked at the 2019 Desert Athletics where Botsyo won the 100-meter dash to become the world’s 6th fastest athlete.

Botsyo qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games after winning the T54 World Wheelchair 100m race with a new personal best of 14.22s at the Desert Challenge Games in USA last month.

CEO of Opportunity International’, Kwame Owusu-Boateng described Botsyo’s participation in tournaments as one that has not only brought honour to the nation but also inspires persons living with disability to spur them on to achieve their dreams despite being handicapped.

“After following him and the successes he has achieved in the event in USA and his qualification to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics we believe that we needed to recognize his achievement and applaud him and present a token to him for the honour he has brought Ghana as a whole and to also to persons living with disability,” Kwame Owusu-Boateng said.

The CEO added that, “This is to also show to other persons with disability that they can also do more than what Raphael has done also to spur them on to do more and even as he prepares for the event in Tokyo we believe that at the right time we will come together once again to help him in one or two ways to prepare him adequately for the event.”

On his part, the three-time paralympian acknowledged the bank for supporting him and stated that the funds will go a long way to help people living with disability in the country.

“I don’t want to be remembered as a three-time Paralympian but I want to be remembered as giving back to the society, so any opportunity invested in me today is the same as giving back to other physically challenge people looking up to Botsyo Nkegbe who also want to be in the para-sports and achieve something for their life.”

Botsyo is currently preparing for the 2019 World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai on 7-15 November 2019.
