Premiership stars in the African Cup of Nations were exposed to identity fraud after the passport number of every player in the tournament appeared on the official website.

The numbers have now been removed after the Mirror contacted organisers in Ghana.

Among millionaire stars appearing in the 16-nation Cup are Chelsea's Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and Salomon Kalou.

Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue and Kolo Toure could also have been targeted along with Tottenham's Didier Zokora, Liverpool's Momo Sissoko and Manchester United's Manucho.

Graham Cluley, of computer security experts Sophos, said: "Names and birth dates are enough for fraudsters to get started. Extra details like passport numbers are a huge help." A spokesman for £93,000-a-week Drogba said: "We are shocked this information was made available. We appreciate what the Mirror has done."

Embarrassed Cup organisers admitted they had blundered and said the numbers would be removed immediately.
