Osei Assibey names Black Stars teams of 90s and 2000s, picks Asamoah ahead of Kingston

Laryea Kingston could not make the cut in Charles Osei Assibey’s best Black Stars team of the 2000s as the ace broadcaster settled for Kwadwo Asamoah.

Osei Assibey in a chat with this site explained that it is not only unfair but also impossible to name a Black Stars team of players who represented every generation since the team’s formation.

He observed that the likelihood of people being biased is high as their selection will be largely influenced by the players they watched.

He, therefore, decided to name teams of two generations he watched and covered extensively as a journalist.

Osei Assibey’s team of the 90s has the regular suspects of Ayew, Preko and Yeboah being present but in his 2000s team that will ignite debate among people who followed the Black Stars.

Stephen Appiah, Michael Essien, Olele and almost all the players involved in the Black Stars’ recent success were named but conspicuously missing is the fans’ favourite Laryea Kingston.

The former Happy FM and Asempa reporter opted for Kwadwo Asamoah ahead of Laryea.

With 48 caps and six goals, Laryea endeared himself with Ghanaians with his showboating football.

Kwadwo Asamoah who has been with the team for almost a decade and a half is seen as a hugely talented footballer who is yet to replicate his club form at the international level.

But Osei maintains that Asamoah who was arguably Ghana’s best performer at the 2010 AFCON deserves a place ahead of Laryea Kingston.
