IOC Boss departs Accra

Accra, June 19, GNA - Mr. Jacque Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Saturday tasked the newly elected executives of the Association of National Olympics Committees of Africa (ANOCA) to help promote sports on the continent and rub shoulders with other continents.

Addressing delegates just after voting at the 11th ANOCA General Assembly to elect new executives to run the association for the next four years, the IOC President pledge the support of his outfit to the in-coming executives in every move they make to reshape the image of sport on the African continent.

He thanked the out-going executives of ANOCA for the hard work in keeping sports alive on the continent despite all the difficulties facing the continent.

Mr Rogge was grateful to ANOCA on the election of a woman to a position of Vice President and hoped that her position would spur women on the continent to win more laurels in sports. "I believe today is a new beginning for ANOCA, which will have many great prospects for sports on the continent in general." During the election, which was one of the highlights of the ANOCA Conference, General Lassana Palenfo, (Rtd) from Cote d'Ivoire was chosen to head ANOCA for the next four years.

He beat the incumbent, Alpha Ibrahim Diallo from Guinea and four other contestants in the polls. June 19 05
