Accra, Feb. 17, GNA - Officials of Handball have been urged to be impartial in the interpretation of the rules of the game so as not to bring beauty of the game into disrepute.

Brigadier-General George Adjei, Deputy Commandant of the Military Academy and Training School (MATS), made the call at the end of a four-week Handball Officiating Course in Accra on Friday. About 40 officials drawn from the security services and the Ghana Education Service took part in the course which was jointly organised by MATS and the National Sports Council.

Some of the courses treated included 'Punishment', 'Responsibility of the Referee' as well as the 'Language of the Game'. Brig-Gen. Adjei said for the game of handball to be developed, there was the need for officials to be firm and avoid all forms of malpractices that may tarnish their image and bring the game to disrepute.

He advised the participants to join the local associations in their communities to have a common goal of developing the sport especially at the grassroots level.

Brig-Gen. Adjei said MATS would do everything possible to ensure that facilities are provided to enhance the development of the sport and to make the work of the participants easier. Certificates of merit were presented to the participants.
