Italian female boxer Angela Carini abandoned her match against Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who is alleged to be transgender, causing an uproar on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).

Many criticized the International Olympic Committee (IOC), as they found the incident absurd and sympathized with the Italian boxer.

Some suggested that all female boxers at the Olympics should abandon their matches in protest to have the Algerian disqualified.

Others could not understand the decision to allow an alleged transgender woman to compete, expressing concerns about the direction human rights are taking in the world.

Angela Carini quit the fight after just 46 seconds, following the first punch from Khelif. Khelif landed two heavy punches in the opening round, which seemed to have damaged Carini's chin.

Carini threw her helmet down and broke into tears as her coaches climbed into the ring to console her.

Imane Khelif was declared the winner after Carini decided to withdraw.
