Hundreds of supporters were arrested in France after Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) won their second consecutive Champions League title by beating Arsenal on penalties.

Following the match, fans thronged the streets of Paris to celebrate the historic victory, which later descended into violence, prompting a heavy security response.

Reports indicate that fireworks and flares were set off, electric bikes were burned on roads, and revelers smashed the glass of at least one shopfront.

PSG beat Arsenal to retain Champions League

Police deployed to control the situation were met with chaotic scenes, with some officers sustaining injuries during the clashes.

According to police reports, 416 individuals were arrested, while authorities worked to prevent the situation from escalating further.

It was also reported that two businesses and a bus shelter were damaged before order was eventually restored.

The violence has drawn criticism from political figures in France, who condemned the incidents and questioned how a football result could trigger such unrest.

PSG secured a tense 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Arsenal after the match ended 1-1 following extra time in Budapest.

The triumph came a year after PSG’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the 2025 final in Munich, making them the first club to successfully defend the UEFA Champions League title since Real Madrid’s historic three-peat between 2016 and 2018.

They also became only the second club to retain the trophy in the modern Champions League era and just the 10th team in the competition’s history to win back-to-back European titles.
