Ghana defender John Paintsil’s problems are mounting after his Israeli club Premier League side Hapoel Tel Aviv told him to find new employers with one year remaining on his contract.

The right-back has been told he is surplus to requirements which means he will not play for them when returns to the club following his torrid time in Ghana after the Africa Cup of Nations.

With one year remaining on his contract, the defender can choose to stay at the Israeli club until his contract runs out.

It has been revealed that the experienced right-back was told to look for a new club at the Bloomfield Stadium before he left for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Paintsil played his last match for Hapoel Tel Aviv on December 9 in a league match against Hapoel Acre where he lasted for 76 minutes.

”John is not going to play for Hapoel Tel Aviv and that was the coach’s decision like two months ago even before the incident,” Rotem Grossman, the club’s spokesperson, told Accra-based Joy FM.

“We made him an offer to find a new club in January but he didn’t want to leave.

“So when he returns I think it will be better to reach an agreement so he can think about his future as a football player and not just train with the team without playing.”

Paintsil joined his former club Hapoel Tel Aviv last summer after terminating his contract with English Championship side Leicester City.

He made nine appearances for the capital based side.

Paintsil hogged the headlines last month after he was arrested by Ghana Police for beating up his wife and a neighbour.

But those assault charges were dropped by the victims after he was hospitalized following the attacks on him.

He is currently in Ghana undergoing treatment over the hamstring injury he suffered at the Africa Cup of Nations.
