Pappoe admits no flaws in GFA elections

Accra, June 17, GNA - Frederick Pappoe, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dismissed the existence of any flaws in the election process at the Extraordinary Congress of the FA held on Friday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, Prampram.

Incumbent Nyantakyi was elected by popular acclamation at the session that lasted a little over half-an-hour.

Whilst many expected a secret ballot like the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) elections where incumbent Joseph Sepp Blatter was the sole candidate, the session rather opted for a popular acclamation.

Explaining Article 28, which deals with elections of a sole candidate, Pappoe told Pappoe said the acclamation is a form of voting and the declaration by the official of the Electoral Commission remains intact since there was no objection from any quarters.

His views were confirmed by GFA President, Nyantakyi, who said the football organizing body made no flaws.

He said the fact that the Statutes states that the candidate is returned means there is no casting of ballot.

"We discussed it severally at the Executive Committee. Once our Statutes say that no election, why do you want to go the extraordinary line and circumvent the law."

Pappoe added that they are prepared to defend their stand on any platform.
