Past Students of Northern schools participate in Fun Games

Accra, July 17, GNA - Past Students of secondary schools from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions participated in various sporting activities at the El-Wak sports stadium on Saturday. The Fun Games involving dubbed "Dawadawa Games" was organised to bring together old students from the three regions to interact and find common ground to assist the growth of their schools and to bring unity amongst them.

The participants engaged in football, basketball, athletics, tug-of war and other fun games.

The Games, hosted by the Old Tamascans Association, aims at bringing together old students from the North to explore the possibilities of collaboration among the Northern, Upper East and West Region; networking to develop their areas and to showcase the Dawadawa spice to enhance its market value.

It would be climaxed with a dinner dance next Friday, during which prizes would be awarded to raffle winners, who are expected to donate their gifts valued over 50 million cedis to their Alma Mata. At the end of the first round of the games, Wa Secondary (WASEC) placed first in the first 100 metre heats event for below 40 years followed by Bawku Secondary with Yendi Secondary placing third and Tamasco placing fourth.

The second heat of 40 years plus, Saint Francis Xavier came first followed by Tamasco with Tamale polytechnic coming third and Tamasco taking the fourth position.

In the 100 metres Ladies event, Tamasco came first followed by Bawku secondary, Saint Francis Girls Secondary third and Tamale Training College (TATCO) fourth. Tamasco again came first in the 60 metres Ladies race followed by Bawku secondary and Saint Francis Girls secondary third and TATCO placing fourth.

Tamasco came tops when they won the 200 metres walking race followed by Navrongo Secondary with Tamasco placing third and Ghana Secondary School (Ghanasco) taking the fourth position.

Tamasco won the men's 200 metres race followed by Bawku secondary with Ghanasco placing third and WASEC taking the fourth position. Mr Boniface Abubakar Sadique, Deputy Minister for Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City and MP for Salaga joined his alma mater, Tamasco to beat their local rivals, Ghanasco 12-6 in the basketball event.

Present at the fun games were Alhaji Rahimu Gbadamosi, Registrar of the Islamic University of Ghana and Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, member of the National Democratic Congress and Mr Joseph Kofi Adda, Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central as well as a large enthusiastic gathering of civil and public servants of both sexes from the three Northern Regions.
