Controversial Ghanaian player Asamoah Gyan says he’s unperturbed by the numerous stories churned out about him, asserting that it only underlines his greatness.

The Black Stars striker has often been in the news for good and bad reasons. His status has shifted from hero to zero and vice versa several times due to his efforts on the pitch.

The striker shot to world acclaim when he netted a beauty in extra time to qualify Ghana to a first ever World cup quarter final berth in 2010.

Days later, he was on the receiving end as his penalty miss proved a catalyst for Ghana’s failure to make a historic semi final entry after suffering elimination at the hands of Uruguay.

There have been other stories both on and off the pitch that generates hot debate about Gyan, and the striker says this only points out to the influence he wields on the streets.

He shared his thoughts with TV3’s Juliet Bawuah.

“When I’m being mobbed by the people when I go out, I feel good like, you’ve done an incredible job, people do appreciate you”.

“And comparing those two (love and hatred), do you know how I call it, greatness”, he remarked.

“Because if you are not great, you will not even get a lot of people to talk bad or good things about you”.

“Its a balanced thing, so I call it greatness, because everybody wants to to hear something about Asamoah Gyan, people want to hear something about you”.

“It even motivates you, so its good, its a good thing”, he concluded.
