Player exodus is really a worry - Osei

Assistant coach of Asante Kotoko, Michael Osei has added his voice to the rampant player exodus from the Ghana Premier League but insisted the country can still boast of enormous talents.

Over the past years, the GPL has experienced massive player exodus which many believe has negatively affected the quality of football being displayed on the local front.

A tall list of quality players emerging from the domestic top-flight have been moving to countries, like Vietnam, Sudan, DR Congo and Israel just to seek for greener pastures.

The former Asante Kotoko midfielder and now assistant coach has admitted that the rampant player exodus in the GPL is worrisome.

“It is difficult to curb player exodus under this current generations. During our days, we were fortunate to watch great stars like Opoku Nti, Albert Asase and Papa Arko,” he said.

The former Nee Edubiase assistant trainer added: “So we learnt a lot from them. But that opportunity is not available this time because of player exodus.”

“The players move due to financial problems in Ghana. They believe that their future in Ghana are not all bright.”

But Micheal Osei insists that there are still good talents in the country that football people can groom.

“It is difficult, but all the same we have a lot of talents in the country that if we groom very well we can have the same glorious squad.”
