Great Olympics playmaker Gladson Awako says players will stay in the Ghana Premier League if they are paid a minimum of GHC 3000 a month as salary.

According to the former FIFA U-20 World Cup winner, Ghanaian players leave for countries like Ivory Coast and Togo because they pay better than clubs in Ghana.

"I think the minimum a player in the Ghana Premier League should be paid is 3,000 cedis ($550). It is not enough though but that should be. If players get paid GHC 3000 to GHC 4000 a month, they'll not be rushing to say Togo or Cote d' Ivoire," Awako told Angel FM.

The 29-year old returned to Ghana after spells abroad to join Great Olympics for the 2019/20 campaign.

The former TP Mezembe star has been the live wire of the Accra based club this season despite a topsy-turvy first half of the campaign.

Awako previously played for Berekum Chelsea before leaving for DR Congo to join TP Mezembe. He later moved to American USL side Phoenix Rising.

The Ghana Premier League is currently on break due to the outbreak of the cornavirus in the West African country.
