Pollack livid after Chelsea Super Cup loss Berekum Chelsea Steve Pollack ripped into his players after their Super Cup loss to Nania at the Accra Stadium on Sunday. The game finished 4-3 on penalties.

Chelsea’s defeat was their second successive loss to Nania, a division side, in the space of a few months and Pollack was quick to finger his players. “I find it disappointing that we lost this way. We played [Nania] apart in the second half. My players were not impressive.”

The first half was dominated by Nania, who deservedly went ahead two minutes from half time with an Ebenezer Osei volley following Chelsea’s inability to defend a three-man move including David Amewu and Stephen Ackah.

The second half saw a barrage of Chelsea attacks weathered well by the team coached by legend Abedi Pele, but Pollack believes the first half no-show cost his side. On 79 minutes, the probing of Chelsea paid off when Abdul Basit scored the equalizer with a chip to send the game to penalties.

Pollack rued missed chances in the shootout as well. “Clearly, penalties in area we need to work on. In high profile games like this the slightest loss can be your undoing,” he told SuperSport.com. The Blues’ Eric Agyemang and Sadat Karim put them out of contention for the Super Cup with their misses.

Pollack was however positive ahead the league kickoff on October 9 when they play away at Mighty Jets.
