Accra-based Polo Football Academy has honoured Issa Hayatou, President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in recognition of his contribution towards development of football on the continent.
The academy, led by its founder, ex-Black Stars forward, Mohammed Polo has presented a traditional smock “fugu” to the head of Africa’s football governing body for his support towards their programmes.
The academy, received logistical support like training bibs, footballs and kits from the Issa Hayatou Foundation in 2011 to enhance their operations of training needy but talented footballers.
Polo and some youngsters from the academy made the presentation at a brief ceremony in Accra on Wednesday attended by several executives of CAF and Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi.
“We made the presentation to Mr. Hayatou because he has contributed immensely, through his foundation, for the setting up of the academy.
“For the past four years we have seen tremendous growth with many needy kids now getting the chance to get good training.
“Some have already started playing for youth clubs and it won't be long before we will see them playing for Ghana thanks to the contribution of Mr. Hayatou,” Polo said.
Hayatou commended Polo for the gesture and encouraged him to strive to produce talented footballers for the country and African football in general.
The Polo Football Academy started in Accra about four years ago and it boasts over hundred young footballers.
