....in Vodafone Nigeria Independence Cup Saturday

It’s the age-long Ghana against Nigeria sport rivalry all over again in the Vodafone Nigeria Independence Cup on the Accra Polo Club turf this Saturday October 12 when the two West African countries go head-to-head over four Chukkas in honour of the 53rd Independence anniversary celebrations of Nigeria which fell on October 1.

Billed to do battle for the hosts riding on a horseback are Eric Gene (2), Damien Duncan (1), Sowee Saneo (0) and Dishan Ibrahim (-1) who have promised to defeat their opponents to cut abruptly their nearly two-week celebrations which began a week ago.

But unfazed and unwilling to cede victory are the Nigerian quartet comprising Hassan Ramadan (0), Mohammed D. Dawule (1), Lawal Muhammad (0) and Yusuf Garba (2) who have vowed to erode any home advantage of the Ghana side to crown their country’s Independence Day celebrations with a resounding win in Accra.

Expected to invade the lavish Accra Polo Club to offer an unflinching support to Team Nigeria is the Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana himself with the backing of a sizable number of Ghana based Nigerians in what is billed to be a thrilling afternoon of Polo action sponsored by communication giants, Vodafone. Kenneth Quartey and Jamil Ibrahim are the umpires scheduled to officiate the big encounter with Wallad Daruki and Ricky Khubchandani as referee and timekeeper.

As usual, guests will be treated to the thrilling commentary of Martyn Mensah on the speakers all around the ground.
