The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Donkor, has announced that they are following leads to arrest persons involved in the death of late Asante Kotoko fan Nana Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.

According to her, the Sunyani division of the CID has gathered leads about the violent incident and are pursuing them keenly to apprehend all those involved and bring them to justice.

She also disclosed that the Cold Case Unit of the police service is reviewing related cases to produce more evidence to aid the investigation.

“Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley, a devoted supporter of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, was fatally stabbed during a match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC. He died following a heated altercation with an unidentified individual during the game."

"The Sunyani CID is actively pursuing credible leads which could lead to the arrest of anyone involved in this crime. The Cold Case Unit is also actively reviewing several other cases not listed,” DCOP Lydia Donkor said at a press conference.

This update comes amid intense pressure from football fans and officials, including Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku and the wife of the deceased Kotoko supporter, who have called on Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno to pursue the case and deal with the perpetrators.

Nana Pooley, a staunch supporter of Asante Kotoko, was stabbed to death on Sunday, February 2, 2025, during violent incidents at a Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC at Nsoatre.
