David Duncan has voiced out his dissatisfaction with how his team defended in the FA Cup final defeat to Medeama, adding that Mpong’s equalizer should have stood.
Asante Kotoko were denied once again by the Tarkwa lads when they handed them a 2-1 defeat to win the 2015 MTN FA Cup at the Essipong Sports Stadium on Sunday.
Bismark Oppong's perfect finish, with just two minutes on the pitch restored Medeama’s lead, after Ahmed Toure had cancelled Akwasi Donsu’s opener.
The Kotoko backline of Abeiku Ainooson and Ahmed Adams failed to glitter on the evening and allowed the attacking force of Medeama to exploit them to the latter.
Although Coach Duncan has questioned Referee Joseph Lamptey’s decision to disallow Richard Mpong’s equalizer for the Porcupine, he thinks his defenders failed to live to the expectation.
“The defenders allowed Medeama to get a lot of openings which wasn’t the best, but I think our equalizer should have stood,” he said in a post-match interview.
Kotoko will end the season without any trophy, after losing out on the FA Cup to Medeama and mathematically the league title is now beyond their reach with two matches to end the season.
Ashgold are leading the pack with 49 points, which 7 points adrift Kotoko who are 3 with 42 points.
Kotoko will be hosted by Hasaacas at the Essipong Sports Stadium in the penultimate fixtures.
