Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp says Sulley Muntari's long-term position will be in the middle of midfield.

He said: "Obviously I went and watched Sulley an awful lot. I saw him play for Ghana, I watched him play four or five times with Essien and a boy call Appiah, who plays in Turkey, and the three of them are a magnificent midfield together.

"Their energy levels and the way they can play are superb. Essien, he's fantastic, what a player, what a competitor. And Sulley is a young footballer, 22, who is also an outstanding player.

"He likes to be in the action where he played on Saturday, he likes to be inside rather than playing wide but he does play wide for his country. He prefers to be in there among it.

"I like him where he played against Chelsea but it's like everything, you've got to pick your team and you've got to balance your team off and some weeks it's a case of people doing jobs.

"But in the long term I see him as being a central-midfield player."
