The Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said despite the disappointment of the Senior National team to qualify for the finals of the ongoing AFCON, head coach Kwesi Appiah he must be maintained head coach.
Ghana missed the chance of playing at the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 3-2 on penalties to Burkina Faso at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Wednesday.
Speaking on an Accra based radio station, Adom FM, Kwesi Pratt said he has being campaigning for a local coach to manage the affairs of the senior team for years and Kwesi Appiah has proven to be a better coach if given the chance and time to groom the team.
“I am one person who has always been fighting for a local coach. Many foreign coaches we have had in the past years did not do any good to the team. They were paid whooping sum of monies and can walk out of contract with reasons beyond our imagination. No person should call for the head of Kwesi Appiah. He must be given the chance to work,” he said.
According to the outspoken journalist, he will be much pleased if a local coach led the Stars and they lose matches rather than a foreigner whose mission is to spend the hard earning money of the Ghanaian tax payer.
“I will be happy if a local coach lead us (Ghana Black Star) and still lose. We must support our local coaches. They can do better than what the foreigners come here to do,” he told Adom FM.
Some football analyst after Ghana’s low performance exit to reach the finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations has called on authorities to replace Coach Kwesi Appiah since he did not live up to expectation after Ghana’s inability to clinch the trophy.
The Black Stars will now meet Mali in the third-place fixture on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
