Prempeh College are Ashanti regional soccer champions

Kumasi, Dec. 20, GNA - Defending champions, Prempeh College beat Asanteman Secondary School (ASASS) 4-2 to win the Ashanti Region 2004 Schools and Colleges soccer competition held at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

Before reaching the finals, Prempeh beat Konongo-Odumase Secondary School (KOSS) 3-2, went ahead to defeat Effiduase Secondary/Commercial (EFFISCO) 4-2 and beat Opoku Ware School (OWASS) 1-0.

Asanteman on the other hand got to the finals by beating Aduman Secondary School (ADMASS) 2-1, defeated Technology Secondary 2-0 and won 2-1 against Obuasi Secondary/Technical.

In the final match, Prempeh College looked more purposeful and took the lead in the 26th minute through Stanley Osei-Nyarko. Osei-Nyarko, who played a good game, was on target again in the 35th minute to make it 2-0 for his side.

With their pride at stake, Asanteman fought hard and reduced the tally two minutes later through Bright Asare. Prempeh College made it 3-1 in the 55th minute through Richard Osei Bonsu.

Undaunted, Asanteman fought back gallantly and this paid off when Cletus Taaziat connected home a free kick in the 61st minute in a goalmouth melee.

Foster Barnie scored the fourth goal for Prempeh in the 74th minute to seal the doom of Asanteman. Obuasi Secondary/Technical also beat OWASS 2-0 to take the third position.

Samuel Kofi Antwi and Abdul Karim scored the goals in the 33rd and 49th minutes respectively. 04
