President Akufo-Addo to attend funeral of legendary commentator Joe Lartey

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is set to grace the funeral of the late iconic sports and ceremonial commentator Joachim Awuley Lartey (aka "Over To You Joe Lartey").

This was confirmed by Prince Joe Lartey Jnr, a son of the legendary commentator and spokesperson of the family.

Prince Joe Lartey explained that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has promised to give the nonagenarian a befitting burial by the state and will be at the funeral on Friday morning.

The state funeral, which will take place at the forecourt of the State House on September 20, 2024, is expected to attract dignitaries from across Ghana and the diaspora.

Joe Lartey, who died on April 27, 2024, at the age of 96, was noted for his commentary prowess.

Besides his commentary career, 'Old Joe' was also a naval officer in the British Navy, writer, teacher, and historian.

Joe Lartey was a founding member and first president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) and a founding partner of the Toastmasters Club International in Ghana.
