Former Black Stars coach Otto Addo and President John Dramani Mahama
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that President John Dramani Mahama has not expressed any concern about the dismissal of Otto Addo as Black Stars coach.
According to him, since the decision was taken by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the president has not made any complaints or commented on the issue.
He stressed that President Mahama does not make or influence decisions about the national team; hence, his reaction or input is not required.
GFA pays Carlos Queiroz’s hotel bills, not state – Sports Minister Kofi Adams
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Kofi Adams emphasised that the ministry is working to enhance accountability and transparency in matters relating to the sporting fraternity.
“The president has not complained, so he feels the decision is okay. But he did not have to, because he does not recruit a coach for the FA. He manages bigger things, including sports. We are working to improve transparency to engender trust and confidence."
“Do I seek the approval of the president on such issues? The president doesn’t appoint a coach, he doesn’t fire one. Even the minister does not fire; he will only be consulted. The FA is capable of handling it and taking decisions, we should support them,” he said in Twi.
Meanwhile, Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz has been appointed on a short-term deal to lead the Black Stars to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
