President Mills for CAF Platinum

Accra, March 10, GNA - Ghana's President, John Evans Atta Mills would be a recipient of the 2009 Glo-CAF Platinum Award when the annual event takes place at the plush Banquet Hall of the State House in Accra on Thursday, March 11.

The award is for the President's commitment and contribution to sports and football development in the country.

President Mills is expected to lead a high-powered team of former Presidents and members of his cabinet to the awards night which Ghana play host for the second time in three years.

Also expected at the event are Ghana's past leaders, Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kuffour.

The event has Cote D'Ivoire's Didier Drogba, Ghana's Michael Essien and Cameroon's Samuel Eto Fils competing for the converted award. The ceremony would piece together former African football greats including the three nominees for the African Legend Award, Stephen Keshi of Nigeria, Jules Bocande of Senegal and Oswaldo Oliveira Saturnino Jesus. The GNA Sports has learnt that former international stars from Ghana and Nigeria including Abedi Pele Ayew, Victor Ikpeba, Austin Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, Tony Baffour, Osei Kuffour, Peter Rufai and Cameroon's Martins Etonge have signed up for the ceremony.

A source at Globacom, sponsors of the awards told GNA Sports that entertainment personalities across the continent would also converge at the Banquet Hall to add some amusement for the prestigious showpiece. The source mentioned Nigeria's P-Square, Senegal's Ishmael Lo, South Africa's Three Tons of Fun and Benin Republic's Zaynab. The Ghanaian artistes billed for the awards are Jedu Blay Ambolley, Sherifa, Kwabena Kwabena and Pat Thomas as some of the artistes who have so far signed up for the event.
