President honors Black Stars with medals

National Awards have been conferred on members of the senior male national team, the Black Stars in recognition of their 2010 World Cup performance.

Ghana was the only side out of Africa's six representatives to advance past the group stages at the World Cup finals.

The President, John Evans Atta Mills, as part of Ghana’s 51st Republic Day celebrations made the announcement which included a number of distinguished personalities.

According to a statement from the Presidency, the playing body of the Black Stars reached the quarter finals in South Africa are to receive the Companion of the Order of the Volta.

The other honorees are the technical and management teams of the Black Stars, who would take the Grand Medal.
