Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Felix Annan has issued an apology to supporters after the 2019 President’s Cup was rained-off on Sunday.
The much talked about super clash was cancelled after ten minutes of play due to the poor condition of the pitch at the Baba Yara Stadium. This was in fact, triggered by a heavy downpour.
Sunday’s game was supposed to be a perfect test match and preparation for the Porcupines, who host Tunisian side, Etoile du Sahel in a CAF Champions League qualifier on Sunday, September 15, 2019.
Speaking to Kotoko Express App in a post-match interview, Annan, who was in post, pleaded with spectators to forgive them for, adding that, they should be at stadium on Sunday to rally behind them to beat Etoile, to enhance their chances of making it to the group stage.
“First of all, I would love to send my apology on behalf of Kotoko and Hearts. We say to the fans that, we are sorry, even though it’s not our fault; it is nature but we appreciate their support” said the captain.
“We have to say sorry to them that they couldn’t watch the football they came to witness. People travelled from Tamale, Accra to watch this game. Unfortunately, it was rained off. We know they are disappointed. The same way the players are disappointed but we have to accept whatever nature brings” Annan added while shifting his attention to the Etoile game.
“Right now, our focus is on Sunday’s game. We are telling the ‘best supporters in the world’ that, they are the reason we always play well when they are [around]. I am calling on them to throng the stadium. We want to qualify to the group stage and it starts this Sunday.
