Princess seek emphatic win over Kenya In Under-20 World Cup qualifier

Coach Yusif Basigi is planning to unleash the Princesses’ lethal attack on Kenya when they clash at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday in their 2018 Under-20 Women’s World cup (WWc) qualifier.

According to Coach Basigi, fielding a very potent attack that will bring in an emphatic win instead of a comfortable win, will be the only way to tame an aggressive Kenya side whose aim on Sunday will be to scupper the plans of the Princesses to gain an advantage into the second leg.

The winners of this tie advance to the third and final round of the qualifiers and with the Kenyans hosting the second leg of this round, they would want to do everything within their means to have the upper hand.

It is that intention which is likely to be played out in a combative manner that is compelling Basigi to opt for a strategy that will also give his side a comfortable win that they could possibly protect when they make the away trip to Kenya.

All week, Basigi has focused on the girls’ finishing power, encouraging them to shoot at goal from all angles and ranges, in a bid to boost their confidence to do the necessary on the D-day.

With 10 goals from two matches in their first-round qualifier against Algeria, Basigi insists that is no reason to be overconfident given that the opposition will not be the same.

“Kenya will be tougher than Algeria. The Kenyans are quite strong and very combative.

Besides, they will want to hold on to their home advantage in the second leg, so they will be here to attempt to get a goal.

“We will have to prevent them from scoring and the only way to do that is for us to score early and as many goals as we can.

Of course, we will keep our rear also tight. As possible as we can, we will not give them any advantage at all.

“Besides, we want to keep to our high-scoring tradition in the qualifiers”, Basigi told the Graphic Sports.

So far, there is no known injury in camp and Basigi is relying on the ladies who delivered qualification to this second round to again do the needful when they line up on Sunday.

With Sandra Owusu-Ansah missing this game due to her new deal in Lebanon, the responsibility of getting the goals will fall on Helena Obeng, Philicity Asuako, Grace Asantewaa, Vivian KonaduAdjei and Princella Adubea, who together share the 10 goals the Princesses have scored in this qualifying campaign.
