Pakyi Number Two (Ash), 14th Aug 1999 - Mr Kwaku Aninkora-Sie, Amansie West District Chief Executive, has appealed to the public to support and co-operate with the security agencies in the fight against the rising incidence of organised and syndicated crime in the society. This, he said, demands giving out information on criminals and all suspicious persons to the Police.
Mr Aninkora-Sie was inaugurating a watchdog committee at Pakyi Number Two, a sprawling community on the outskirts of Kumasi, along the Obuasi road. The District Chief Executive said he was unhappy with the situation where most people hesitate in exposing those, whose activities are threaten peace and security in the society.
He praised the community for its initiative at complementing the work of the Police and said the district assembly was ready to provide them with the necessary kits to enhance their night patrols.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ohene Bosompem in-charge of Asokwa, advised members of the committee not to mete out instant justice to suspected criminals they arrest.
He said they should hand them over to the Police, warning that under no circumstances should they take the law into their own hands. Mr Kingsley Yaw Ofori, the assembly member for the area, drew the attention of the committee to the need to ensure discipline and confine its activities within the law.
The Atwima-Kwanwoma Rural Bank donated 10 flashlights, whistles and dry cell batteries to assist in their night patrols.
