Ex-Ghana captain Emmanuel Quarshie will leave for Egypt this weekend to undergo treatment of a throat cancer.
His expenses will be borne by his former club Zamalek who want to his recovery.
He will be accompanied by a former team mate Francis Edzie.
Quarshie visited the club last week in Accra ahead of their CAF Champions League match against Berekum Chelsea.
His trip was facilitated by Justice Boison, a former Hasaacas player, who informed Zamalek officials about Quarshie’s deteriorating health.
“Both will have their travelling expenses borne by Zamalek, as well as their rented apartment in Cairo for the duration of the treatment,” Boison is quoted by the Graphic Sports.
Quarshie was a prominent player for Zamalek during the team’s heyday in the 1980s.
The former Sekondi Hasaacas player helped the Cairo giants to end a six-year Egyptian league drought and win their maiden Champions League title in 1984.
He was renowned for his physical prowess and goal-scoring instinct.
Quarshie captained Ghana to win their last Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the 1982 finals in Libya.
