Nkoranza, (B/A) July 17, GNA – The Management of Achiaa FM Radio Station at Nkoranza in the Brong-Ahafo Region has organised a bicycle race at Nkoranza and Techiman to entertain the youth and also to officially launch the station to the public.
Forty-three participants took part in the race which covered a distance of 25 kilometres from Techiman to Nkoranza.
The first-five contestants were present with a refrigerator, a 21-inch colour television, a bicycle, an electric iron and a mobile phone as their awards at a total value of GHC900.
All the first five award winners came from Techiman with 15-year-old Master Anthony Boakye Dankwa, who was described by fans as a “wonderful rider” placed first and took home the first prize of a refrigerator.
The other four runners-up were Kofi Logo, Ameyaw Kennedy, Prince Yeboah and Wisdom Akapo.
Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive (DCE) who addressed the participants and a large crowd of spectators after the event, commended the management of Achiaa FM Radio Station for organising the competition to promote unity and cooperation among the youth of the two communities.
He commended the Director of the Station Mr Nick Danso Adjie, a citizen of Nkoranza for his vision in opening the Station in the District to promote the development of the area.
The DCE stressed the need for people to undertake regular exercises adding that such exercises would make them strong and healthy.
Madam Salamatu Ibrahim, Nkoranza South District Director of Health Services was appreciative of the good practices of the Keep Fit Clubs in Nkoranza for engaging themselves in a Walk through the streets of the town to keep fit.
Regular exercises reduce tension, boredom as well as offering sound mind and better sleep at night, Madam Ibrahim told the participants, adding that women who regularly exercise their bodies hardly contract breast cancer.
Mr Thomas Adu-Appiah, Acting Director of the Radio Station commended personnel of the Police Service and nurses from the Saint Theresa’s Hospital for ensuring the safety of both the riders and Keep Fit “Walkers” for ensuring an incident-free event.
