Ghanaian defender Abdul Baba Rahman and winger Christian Atsu played their first game under new Chelsea boss Antonio Conte on Saturday against Rapid Wien.
The Blues lost 2-0 thanks to goals from Joelinton and Tomi Correa on either side of the half-time to hand Conte his first defeat as Chelsea boss.
The strong Chelsea team saw Black Stars defender Baba Rahman start at left-back partnering captain of the side John Terry, Papy Djilobodji and Branislav Ivanovic in defence.
Chelsea also had John Obi Mikel, Willian, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa in the starting line-up.
The Blues were, however, stunned as hosts Rapid Wien scored twice without reply to win the game by two goals to nil.
Christian Atsu, who was on loan away at AFC Bournemouth and Malaga last season, was given some playing time in the game.
The Ghanaian player replaced Victor Moses after 80 minutes of play as his Chelsea side lost their first pre-season game.
