Nana Fitz, a renowned Football administrator and sympathizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described a candidate for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Presidency, Randy Abbey, as a naked opportunist.

Nana Fitz made this striking declaration in an interview with Kweku Owusu-Aduomi, aka wanowano, on Montie 100.1 FM last Friday.

Speaking on The Informer’s publication of moves by Randy Abbey to use his closeness to the first family to secure the GFA Presidency, Nana Fitz said, “if there was an issue and we don’t carefully analyze before speaking, you might end up messing things up; so I have kept quiet for long because I wanted to do my own investigations and know what is really going on.

You see, we have a big problem; when there is an issue, instead of properly analyzing it and finding a solution to it, we get people who try to profit from it to suit their selfish interests.”

According to him, it is unfair that while people are trying to resolve issues, someone like Randy Abbey will be seeking to profit from it. “This whole issue started as a result of the ill-fated Brazilian appearance and it is due to this that the Minister was even sacked before he could arrive in Ghana.

So if something went wrong and people are trying to solve it, why should you Randy Abbey, who has been part and parcel of Kwesi Nyantekyi’s administration from day one and was defending him all over, should use his failure if any, as trump card to try and kick him out of office,” Nana Fitz stated.

“Randy should equally be held liable for any failure on the part of the GFA since he has been part and parcel of that set-up,” he added.

Without mincing words, the renowned football administrator pointed out that attempts by Randy Abbey to use his closeness with the first family to unseat the current GFA President, and to a greater extent, sabotage the operations of the country’s football governing body is unacceptable.

Nana Fitz also touched on Randy Abbey’s unprincipled political life as someone who defended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) brazenly when the Party was in power, only to quickly switch to the NDC when the President, John Mahama, became Head of State; describing him as an Opportunist.

“Was Randy Abbey not NPP, was he not even trying to contest on the ticket of the NPP. Is it not after the NPP lost in 2008 that he quickly started brandishing his relationship with the President’s brother?” He asked.

According to him, Randy Abbey should be made to answer whether or not the President’s brother was not alive when he was all over the airwaves defending the NPP and using unprintable words against the late President Mills and the NDC.

“Randy is an opportunist. He is an opportunist at its best. I don’t normally speak, but this has to be said,” Nana Fitz angrily stated; and wanted to know whether he (Randy) was not part of those who pushed the government to set up a commission of enquiry into the Brazil happenings so he will have the opportunity to instigate trouble at the GFA.

“I won’t hold brief for anyone, you know me. If his wishes have been granted, why then doesn’t he wait for the commission to finish its work before he starts these moves to usurp the GFA Presidency? If there is any critic of Kwesi Nyantekyi, I am number one, but was it not this same Randy Abbey and others who were moving with him (Kwesi Nyantekyi) and defending him all over,” he concludes.
