Ghana defender Daniel Amartey is set for his debut appearance in the Leicester City first team squad as manager Claudio Ranieri has drafted him as replacement for the suspended Danny Simpson.

Amartey, 21, arrived at the King Power Stadium via the winter transfer window FC Copenhagen but is yet to be handed first team action.

However after excelling in two games for the Foxes Development Squad, the Italian is set to hand the versatile defender a place in his squad for their home clash with relegated-threatened Norwich City in the coming weekend.

His inclusion is partly due to the suspension of defender Danny Simpson who was sent off in the 2-1 reverse at Arsenal last weekend.

The former Chelsea and AS Monaco manager insisted he signed Amartey due to his versatility. And, truly the former Djurgarden defender can play in either of the back four roles.

Leicester's leadership of the Premier League was pruned down to 2 points by Arsenal who defeated them at the Emirates.

Ghanaian attacker Jeffrey Schlupp who can also play in defence is set to return from injury and can rival Amartey for the role.

While Joe Dodoo, the English-born Ghanaian winger, could also earn a return to the first team squad after scoring a great finish for the Development Squad to lift them to a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Monday.
