FIFA referee William Agbovi has said Ghana Premier League referees are not corrupt as being perceived by a section of the media and the football fraternity.
“People are always making allegations against Ghanaian referees for taking bribes but for me I have never seen a club official bribing a referee before, and I don’t believe in rumors. Anyone who has evidence to that effect should show up,” Agbovi told Gazzettaghana.com.
According to him, he does not understand why a referee can determine an outcome of a match, saying that the clubs should always prepare very well towards their games and stop blaming referees.
Ghanaian referees have come under a lot of bashing and criticism in recent times following their poor performance in the just ended Ghana top-flight league.
Agbovi is one of the renowned referees in Ghana who have officiated top Premier League games and Africa Club Competition.
