The Regional Maritime University is to restructure its curriculum to help meet the challenges in the maritime industry and also prepare the students against the upsurge in piracy.

Professor Elvis Nyarko, Vice Chancellor of the University, disclosed this at the opening of the Alumni Homecoming Fun Games at Nungua in Accra.

Some of the games to be competed in include Soccer, Volleyball, Tennis, Draught, Ludo, Playing Cards and Table Tennis.

He said the aim of the Homecoming was to create awareness of the existence of the university, familiarise with the old students and also see how best they could support the alumni.

Prof. Nyarko said the university, which was established in 1958 to train seafarers for the Black Star Line, had gone through a lot of transformation.

He said the university was originally called Nautical College, became the Regional Maritime Academy in 1983 and a fully-fledged university in 2007.

The Vice Chancellor appealed to the alumni to contribute meaningfully to the development of their alma mater.
