Sunyani, (B/A) Feb 21, GNA - The Brong Ahafo Regional Sports Council will organize a cross-country race on Saturday, February 25 to select 10 athletes to represent the Region at the national cross-country race scheduled for Tamale in March.
Mr. Kofi Duku-Duodu, the Regional Chief Sports Development Officer told GNA Sports that the event would start from the Wesley Cathedral Methodist Church junction and end at the Sunyani Coronation Park with the men competing in 12 kilometers whilst the women compete in eight kilometers.
He said 200 athletes from all the Districts of the Region would participate in the event, adding that certificates of merit would be given to the first 15 runners who finish the race.
Mr. Duku-Duodu said that other athletes from the Central, Ashanti and Western Regions have been invited to participate in the event to offer the necessary challenge to their counterparts in the Brong Ahafo Region.
He said the national cross country race, which had been on dormant for the past three years was being revived to unearth talents as well as rekindle athletics in the regions. The security agencies are expected to participate in the national event, Mr. Duku-Duodu added.
