Removing Infantino will be a terrible mistake – Trump warns

President of the United States Donald Trump has cautioned against calls for the removal of FIFA President Gianni Infantino over his failed bid to sell stakes in the World Cup.

The US President indicated that Infantino has accomplished significant work and deserves to continue leading, making the football governing body better for all.

Trump noted that the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, was one of the best in history, and Infantino’s absence could jeopardize future tournaments, particularly the huge revenue generated for the benefit of the sport.

“FIFA would be making a terrible mistake if, for any reason, they even considered replacing President Gianni Infantino. He is fantastic, having just presided over the most successful World Cup, by four times, ever presented. If he is gone, it will never be as successful or profitable again. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on August 10, 2026.

This development comes as UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF intensify pressure on Infantino to resign as FIFA President over his controversial plans.

Infantino had proposed the creation of a new commercial entity, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which would house some of FIFA’s most valuable revenue streams, including broadcast rights, sponsorship deals, licensing, ticketing, and hospitality.

The plan involved selling a minority stake of up to 20 percent in the new entity to private investors, while FIFA retained majority ownership and control. However, the proposal, valued at around $20 billion, was abandoned after heavy public backlash.
