Renaming Wassaman United As R.T.U Not Possible - Ntow Fianko

The Chairman of the Division One League Board, Kwame Ntow Fianko says that, as per the regulations of the Ghana Football Association, it will not be possible for any business concern interested in buying newly promoted Wassaman United to move the club to Tamale and rename it Real Tamale United.

Ntow Fianko told footyghana.com that the Division One league teams are zoned in different regions of the country, adding that the transfer of clubs is only possible within a set zone.

‘For example, teams in the Ashanti, Western and Central Region are in Zone 2, which is divided into two sub-zones. So it is possible for someone to buy a club based in Kumasi for example and move it to Tarkwa. That is why it was possible for Kessben to be sold, renamed and moved to Tarkwa as Medeama SC because it’s all in the same Zone.’

Ntow Fianko argued that since relegated Real Tamale United is now in Zone 1, it will contravene GFA regulations to buy a club in zone 2 and move it to zone 1.

‘In short, you cannot move a club from one zone to another. So those interested in purchasing Wassaman United and re-basing the team in Tamale will be going against the regulations of the GFA and will indeed set a bad precedent as per playing competitively to either gain promotion or avoid relegation.’

Ntow Fianko’s comments will come as a big blow to an interested corsortium, which plans to buy Wassaman United and rename it R.T.U, and Purejoy Stars owner Isaac Tetteh, who also wants to buy the club and move it to Prampram which is in Zone 3.
