Rene wins Heritage Classic Golf

Tema, Aug. 9, GNA - Rene Kwame returned a net score of 69 to win the maiden Heritage Classic Wishbone Invitational Golf Championship played at Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono, near Tema on Saturday. Rene, a Management Consultant and member of Achimota Golf Club, who played 45 Front and 41 Back with a Handicap of 17, would be playing to a new Handicap, to be determined by the Competition Secretary of Celebrity Golf Club.

The other prize, a trophy in the men's competition was won by Percy Amihere who returned a net score of 75.

In the ladies category, Ann Brown came first with a net score of 69 while Joy Arkutu took the second position with a net score of 73. S.L. Quartey played above himself to lift the Senior's trophy as he returned a net score of 74 while Doris Ephraim won the Juniors event with 84 net score.

The 'Longest Drive on Hole One' in the men's division was won by Akwasi Opoku while the ladies category went to Felicity Gyeabour. The one-day 18-Hole Medal Play event, which was an initiative of Mr Pierre Coussey, member of Celebrity Golf Club, was to raise funds to develop the Club and assist needy institutions.

It also served as a memory to his son the late Mr Justice Charles Edward Henley Coussey, who was a member of the Committee that drafted the Ghana Golf Association's constitution.

About 100 golfers participated in the competition sponsored by management of Wishbone Incorporated in collaboration with other corporate bodies.

Dr Kobina Quansah, President of Celebrity Golf Club, commended the late Justice Coussey for his immense contribution towards the development of golf in the country and gave the assurance that the competition would be an annual affair.

Mr Coussey expressed appreciation to those who contributed to the success of the competition and was optimistic they would continue to offer the necessary support for the poor and the needy in society to enable them develop their potentials.
