Renovation works at Accra Sports Stadium to be done in phases - Minister

Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah has revealed that the well-trumpeted facelift for the Accra Sports Stadium will be segmented.

According to him, the integrity audit done on the state of the facility about four years ago recommended its immediate closure for maintenance.

And to avert any possible disaster, government has set June to begin renovation works on the Accra Stadium but the Sports Minister has explained that not the entire edifice will be closed down at a go.

“I’ve received a structural integrity audit on the Accra Sports Stadium. The audit was done between 2013 and 2015. It did indicate that this stadium needs to be closed down.

“Mr. President what we are doing is that we are going to undertake the renovation in phases. Already, I’m in touch with stakeholders for us to close that aspect that is more dangerous…” Hon. Asiamah mentioned at the 42nd SWAG Awards Night.

The cost for the entire works on the Accra Sports Stadium has been pegged at $12million, the Sports Minister announced in April. The estimates were prepared by government engineering experts, Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL).
