Renowned Boxing promoter eulogises Coach Alloway

Mr. Freddie Annan, a renowned Boxing promoter has eulogised, the late Godwin Nii Dzanie, known in the boxing circles as “Alloway”, who passed away last month after a short illness.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Annan said, Nii Dzanie contributed immensely to his success as one of the leading boxing promoters in Ghana and London.

“I was successful in becoming the first British Black International Boxing agent licensed by the British Boxing Board of Control.

“I’m proud to say, he assisted me in managing the following boxers, Kofi Quaye, Steve Dotse, Bukom Fire, Joshua Clottey, Joseph Agbeko, Albert Mensah, Patrick Allottey, Moyoyo Aloyi, Napolean Lion and Mandingo Laryea”. He told the GNA Sports.

Mr. Annan said he was saddened by the death of the renowned boxing coach who has contributed to the development of several boxers in the country.

“I am looking forward to travelling to Ghana to participate in the funeral to give him the last respect. Ghana has truly lost a great man.

“Alloway has played a great role in the development and promotion of boxing in the country and deserves a fitting burial.” He noted.

The respected Ghanaian boxing trainer also handled the likes of Azumah Nelson and Joshua Clottey and had a wealth of experience in the game with almost four decades in the pugilistic sport and campaigned for major reforms in the sport.

Nii Dzanie, 56, was also the Head Trainer for the Attoh Quarshie Gym in Accra where he trained many boxers including highly-rated lightweight George ‘Red Tiger’ Ashie.
